Tracey Noelle Luz and Eric Brown, owners of Honey and Moon Photography, have brought back “Day in the Life Jersey City” for a second year. They are calling on all residents to document their day on September 10 as part of the citywide photography project, “#dayinthelifejc.”

“It was super cool to see all the different things that so many people were doing all over this diverse and dynamic city in last year’s entries,” said Brown. “Artists and non artists alike were excited about the project!”

Last September, when Brown and Luz put out an open call for participants they received hundreds of photograph submissions from people all over the city—creating a snapshot of moments from every ward in our city on the same day. Sixty images, from those submitted, were then selected by a group of judges (one from each ward) to be part of a group exhibit during the Jersey City Arts and Studio Tour (JCAST), the images were also assembled onto a large banner displayed outside City Hall.

“It was really special to see so many different images from all over the city as part of one piece,”said Luz. “When people came to see the exhibit, they were so excited to have their work at the studio tour, it was a really meaningful project for us.”

In January of 2016, I spoke with Brown and Luz about joining forces to expand #dayinthelifejc to include a monthly guest instagrammer on the Jersey City Independent’s Instagram feed @jcindependent. We dubbed the project the #dayinthelifejc JCI Instagram takeover. We’ve used the project as a way to spotlight local people once a month. Participants have included artists, firemen, activists and other community members from all over the city.

For September 10 we’ve turned things around—Brown and Luz will be taking over the JCI instagram feed. They’ll be driving all over the city, following people on Instagram who use the hashtag #dayinthelifejc, featuring them as part of their takeover.

What does your Jersey City look like? Participants are asked to take photos throughout the day on September 10 showing their Jersey City! Have fun, be creative, be real. Then post your images on Instagram with the hashtag #dayinthelifejc.

For consideration to be included in the 2016 Jersey City Arts and Studio Tour exhibit at the flagship location submit “one” photo from your day to the Honey and Moon Photography website. Submissions must be sent by no 11:59 pm on September 11.

This year’s judges are Andy V. Lac (Ward A), Chris Gadsden (Ward B), Beth Achenbach (Ward C), Trish Symanski (Ward D), Lynn Hazan aka “ChicpeaJC” (Ward E), and Annette Booth (Ward F).

Jersey City Independent is proud to be a sponsor of #dayinthelifejc along with JLD Tax and Accounting, Hazel Baby and Kids, Rolon’s Bar, Hound About Town, and the City of Jersey City. Courtesy
