A Music Benefit for Jack Silbert

February 11, 2017 Catherine Hecht

In case you hadn’t heard local writer Jack Silbert has been battling a serious illness. Jack is well known throughout Hudson County (and beyond) for his love of music and his expansive coverage over the years of the indy music scene. He has written about almost everything from local food spots, to theater, to politics. He is also an internet-radio DJ and on occasion an actor… you can say he is a “Jack” of all trades.  In addition to his involvement in the local arts community he’s always willing to lend his support and time by raising money and volunteering for a host of local charities.

Jack has written for most of the local publications including the Jersey City Independent and he scribes a lot on his own blog, saltinwound.com. I’m lucky to have worked with Jack over the years on JCI articles and as an editor on a few of our print issues. I’m glad to call Jack a friend and can tell you from first hand he is an all around great guy. Writing is a labor of love and you can definitely tell that he loves what he does. I always appreciate his willingness to write about an unheard of artist that is new on the scene, his ability to get to the heart of a story and to cut through any BS with honesty and his well known sense of humor.

Jack has been making great progress in his recovery but there are expenses and medical costs not covered by insurance. What better way to help a fellow artist out than with a live music event?

Tonight, February 11 is a benefit for Jack Silbert at Monty Hall, 43 Montgomery St. There will be music from Karyl Kuhl Band, Speed the Plough, The Vines of Hoboken and Matt Davis. There will also be a raffle where you can win some great swag. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online from Monty Hall. Doors open at 7:30 pm and the show starts at 8:00 pm. (BTW: Jim Testa did a great write up on the musicians that will be performing tonight, which you can read on nj.com.)

We’re rooting for you Jack!
